The Fire Within (large scale)
This is a large, dramatic and layered painting, full of energy and life.
Grieving is never linear, and often triggered by another loss, or a seemingly inconsequential event. When it is tapped, a fire builds within, slowly consuming everything around it as it manifests itself in the present. This large scale of this work, 64x44, uses the medium itself to convey the tension between the peace that lies beneath, tempering the fire that rages.
My niece Susan was 9 when she died, after a fall. From the moment I stepped into the ER on that quiet August night experiencing something that is too painful to share, until now, her beautiful spirit burns as bright as the weight of the loss.
